Spooks Representation of Ethnicity

In this clip Danny is represented as a very strong character which is unknow, because stereotypicly a black person wouldn't be seen in this way however i do think he plays it very well. He could be seen as wise, this is because the way he speaks down to the terroist and realised that he could have been in the same position that he is because he was born some place different. I think he says this because of his colour, that he was more likely to be in that position than the terroist. He is also seen as selfless. This is because  he gives his life to save his partner when she was already at gun point by the terroist. He is also seen as the hero because he stands up to the terroist even now he is tied down to the chair he says that 'if i wasn't tired in this chair, i would be standing in your face'.

some of the lighting was used very well because the terroistwere in the dark most of the time symbolising that they are the villians. They also have the windows in the back ground that looks like jail bars show that they are prisoners. There is alot of music tension in the clip showing that they mite be middle easten because of the Islame music in the back ground like they are just about to pray. There is also a Wale nosies in the back ground, i don't really now why they do this but i like to think that the noise goes with the oraying music in a way.

The reaction of when Danny get shot shows that he was a well loved guy. I can tell this by the reaction from all the people when he died. For example one of the guy's phone just slips from his hand showing that he is gob smaked. Which a ditffernet reaction to the women who cries strate the way.

I think that Danny wins in the end of this scene because he get's the terrorist to change his mind in the end even tho he dies.

Let the right one in

Let the right one in

In this film there is many different ways they have used props to catch the realism of the effect of dead bodies. For example when the bodies are being hung and when the arm and head gets dropped into the pool but the only criticism I would say is I think there would be more blood coming for the head and arm when they are put into the pool. The mise en scene in this film is not like any other vampire films that you’re normally see because stereotypically in a vampire film you see them with big teeth and some English guy trying to slay it but in this film there is not much of this. She is sort of a loner whom I think askes the question of whether there was more of them or just a freak of nature.

The use of sound in the film brings lots of tension. But sometimes there would be no music at all I think that they did this because they couldn’t capture the emotion of the seen when filming it because of the unnatural creature the vampire. This also backs up my point of her being a loner because that they don’t have any music for her saying that she is one of a kind.
Some of the camera work was well done by making her look pale almost like she is dead. But when she feeds her colour comes back because of the blood she has just drunk. There is a lot of close up shots of her after she had just feed and showing all the blood around her mouth.

The representation of the two characters shows that they are both very lonely but when they are together they are the best of friends and would do anything for each other. It shows that Eli is the villian because see kills people but she is also the victim. this nis because she is lonely and hates her self for killing people. However Oscar is seen as the hero but when he is helping a vampire that kills people how does that make him the hero. I think that the repersentation of these two are best friends not matter who or what they are.

Story line
In 2005, the only thing hurting Los Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez more than his face from a recent bike accident was his pressing need for story ideas. That is when he discovers Nathaniel Ayers, a mentally ill, homeless street musician who possesses extraordinary talent, even though his half-broken instruments. Inspired by his story, Lopez writes an acclaimed series of articles about Ayers and attempts to do more to help both him and the rest of the underclass of LA have a better life. However, Lopez's good intentions run headlong in the hard realities of the strength of Ayers' personal demons and the larger social injustices facing the homeless. Regardless, Lopez and Ayers must find a way to conquer their deepest anxieties and frustrations to hope for a brighter future for both of them

Critical reaction

Overall, the film has received somewhat mixed reviews. Based on 120 reviews collected by Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an overall rating 55% (considered "Rotten") of reviews being positive with an average score of 6/10.[6] At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 top reviews from mainstream critics, the film received an average score of 61 out of 100, which indicates "generally favorable reviews", based on 32 reviews.[7] Reviewers generally praise the performances by Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx, but comment on the film's lack of narrative focus in attempting to tell a convincing or engaging story due to the somewhat "uneven" direction by director Wright.[8] Many felt that the project was a bit of a "mismatch" for Joe Wright, and felt it was one of his weakest films to date, following the success of his adaptations of Pride and Prejudice (2005) and Atonement (2007).

movie work

Evaluation

What went wrong during the production?

We came across several problems during the filming of the short film, some of which only arose after we'd gotten to the editing stage. For one, we couldn't actually film the door itself opening, due to it being rather dark outside, and the shadow over the outside door handle being too dark to film. Also, at one point, Tom's head with the camera appears in the reflection of the door.

What problems did we fix, and how?

To fix the door handle problem, we came back on a lighter day and reshot it and the scene of the guy looking through the door - however, this created another problem of there being inconsistent clothing between scenes, a problem that we didn't have time to fix (as it would have probably required re-shooting the whole thing).

What could we have done better?

We could have made sure to keep the same clothing between scenes by making sure to bring the specific clothes on the days of filming, and we could have avoided getting Tom's head in the reflection by adjusting the lighting of the room, or even just having him move out of the way whilst we were shooting. In the future, lighting and clothing will be things we'll need to take into consideration when shooting, to avoid these problems from happening again.

We also need to censor what we say, apparently, because we had the whole scene revolving around a single line, but it was too "saucy" for the teachers so we had to remove it, which made the entire thing seem way too random.

Presentation

General Class Notes
  • The attachment of famous actors, directors, etcetera. will generally raise the popularity of the film upon release, and will draw people to watch it.
  • It's very difficult to judge the price of film production before the film is actually made or even written - it'd make more sense to make the film first, and hope that you can raise the money afterwards.
  • The level between cheap and attractive should be monitored - for example, cheap, yet relatively well known actors, such as Johnny Vegas, will help to attract a specific audience yet also keep within the budget.
  • The use of great directors and the like (judged based on past projects) can help to make sure that the film is a success.
  • The advertising for a film, more often than not, costs more than the film itself (it's around £175,000 for a 30 second advert).
  • The budget to be spent on props is usually between 1 to 10% of the overall budget.
  • Synergy marketing is the joining of two products in advertising for the mutual benefit of both companies - such as the Pampers advert with Toy Story characters.
  • When talking about rights, self copyrighting should be taken into account, in order to protect the franchise later on.

Professor Xavier

Professor Xavier is praylzed from the waist down. It is show in all the X-men films properly that he never moves his legs. The charicter is represented as a wise, respected man which everybody looks up to (how ironic). It is realistic because they show him as a teacher to every body eles and him showing a good example even when he is praylzed.

Carefree
A carefree look, that can be linked to sports because it seems as if they are active and/or healthy.

Practise
This includes a model consentrating on something so their eyes will be open and their mouth will be closed(but not tightly).

Seductive
This look has the model having her eyes slightly closed and show small expressions but bigger enough to see. The look should also show confident.

Comic
This look has the model looking very histerical. and it will often be exaggerated in order to make the audience's view of it as comical as possible.

Catalogue
This look has the model having a very neutral expression on her face, for example dummy. This could be in any postion but its more common to have their eyes wide open and having a smile on her face. But the look has to be plane showing that the personality has been removed.
