Media Essay

Im going to compare how Shane Meadow's 'This is England' and Edger Wrights 'Hot Fuzz' target a British audience. The directors for Hot Fuzz and This is England are both British and have used their own experences in their films. Hot Fuzz is a british film owned by Working Title which is a pert of a group of companies. Working Tiltle is owned by Universal and that is owned by Vivendi, which are considered to be a main stream company and has abroad apple however This is England is also a British film but is produced by a company called Warp Film. This company is indepentent. Which means they are self govened and have to rase heir own funding for the film because they are not owned by a bigger company unlike Working Tiltle.

The director both used their own experences in there life and put them in the film. Edger Wright used his own judgment based on personality and his children dreams. Edger Wright made the genra a spoot actor crime. The didn't want to do another horro because it wouldn't be as good compared to Shawn of the Dead because it was one of the best funny horros of all time. He made the film as himself as the target audience however some people would say that this is a very dangerous idea but is has worked for him. Wright picked on Bad Boys 2 and Point Break because it is easy whatching unlike some films. Bad Boys 2 is action packed with lots of humour in aswell this is called homoerotic, he gets the idea from Bad Boys 2 for his film Hot Fuzz. Wright also uses this methods called intertextualility, this means that he is using text from other text. Shane Meadows started his career in short films until the 90s he started proper films. But he did go back a step when he made a film called Dead Man's Shoes. Meadows also used his own experences in his life into his films like Egder Wright. When Meadows made This is England he wanted it to be a 15 , because his target audience  was for teenages but was made an 18. However some concils are over turning the film This is England as an 18 and changing it to a 15. Meadows makes the film a social realism film. The thing that makes it so real is that thing that happen in This is England happen all around the country. Wrights Hot Fuzz has alot has alot of well known actors such as Simon  Pegg and Nick Frost, which have done alot of things together. However Meadows This is England there is mostly non known actors that are not in Hollywood. For example  Stephen Graham, Perry Benson, Andrew Ellis and Thomas Turgoose. But Thomas Turgoose has a little story behind him. It was his first film role every and in the audition they took a liking to him stright the way.

The stock actors in Hot Fuzz are Jim Broard, Bill Nighty, Simon Pegg and Nick Forst. In This is England there are four stock actors Vicky McClare, Stephen  Graham, Jo hartley and Andrew Shion. The reason why Shane Meadows didn't want Hollywood actors was because it would seem more realistic but also it wasn't a high budget film. The stereotype in Hot Fuzz is that alot of police offices will do anything to look good and that they dont do anything but go in the pub also how the countryside is ment to be nice and carm.
In This is England the stereotype is that they are all skin heads which stereotyipicly means that they are hard and nonemotionable but one of them says that he 'feels bad now' when they were bullying Shane. The location Where Hot Fuzz is based is London and Shanford Glostershire which however is't a real place but they made it for the film. In This is England the film was based in Nottinhamshire but was filmed iin Gyrimbi. The camera work and editing in Hot Fuzz has alot of single shot and single close up for the audience to catch the effect of the film. But in This is England the camera work has alot of amachor shots and wiht the editing looks like the film was made in the 90s but was made in 2006. Shane Meadows did this to catch the effect of the film and make it look older unlike Edger Wright in Hot Fuzz whereas he didn't.

Both of the films Hot Fuzz by Edger Wright and This is England by Shane Meadows both target a british audience. Hot Fuzz relates to the British audience by using lots of British actors, British director and based in British. The way that This is England relates to a British audience is by it being basced and filmed in Britan. I think that they both target a British audience by both of the reling on the same age group and culture.

Shameless-Representation (sexuality and regional identity)

How are regional identity and sexuality represented in the opening sequence of Shameless episode 1?

Stereotype- The stereotype of the Shameless family is the tipical middle class stereotype. which live on each other and are very close as a family and get by on respect on each other. You would expect a rough middle class family be good but to be causing trouble however in Shameless one of the lads is gay and has hidden it for a while.

Mise en sence- Tere is alot of shot of Frank passed out because the is the drunk of the family but also because he is the narrator of Shameless. But when Frank is narrayting it will focuse on the charictars that the is talking about. And there older sister is showing lips how to put on a comdom showing that even she knows that they are all trouble makers and sexurly active which makes it more surprizing hyow one of them is gay.

Music- The opening music is alot of people singing at the same time which i think is also saying that Shameless is about all members of the family. But Franks voice is over the top when he is recaping or describing what is happening.

Camera work- There is alot of different shots e.g. close, long, hand held ect. But there is some shots that when Frank is passed out the camera is acting like he is Frank looking at every one like he is watching them.

Max Fischer

The question is Max a stereotype of a teenager?  Well I don’t think he is because the typical stereotype of a teen ager doesn’t go to a school that good and be a rubbish student. The only way he gets into this school is all the activities he does for the school which he should be using this time for his work but instead he does his activities. He is founder or president to most clubs or sports in the school. He also wears his uniform for all of his clubs that he does; I have two explanations about this. The first one is that he is the only one wearing the blazer and he wants to stand out also his poor and can not afford for all of the equipment the use. There is a clip of him collecting coins I think it connects with him being poor. He makes friends with younger kids because he is poor he thinks that he is not good enough for the kids his age. There is also a clip of him bee keeping I think this is a metaphor for the saying as busy as a bee because he is organising all of these clubs he doesn’t have time to do his work which is why he is the worst student. Which comes to the question why is he in this school.
