Vicky Pollard

Analysis of Vicky Pollard

The first shot starts with a pan shot with the camera following her, because she is the main character so she is in the middle of the shot. She is also wearing chavi clothes which don’t fit her were as a person that she walks pass is more of a business looking individual showing the two different classes between themselves. The next shot starts with another pan shot from the sweets to her, where she is steeling sweets instead of buying them, showing again that she is below a working class citizen.

Kick Ass- Eassy

After watching Kick-Ass you need to write about the film in relation to the 7 key areas of representation: Gender, Age, Ethnicity, Sexuality, Social Class, Physical Ability/ Disability, Regional Identity.

Also refer to the 4 key areas of Textual Analysis: Camera Shots, Angle, Movement and Composition ,Editing ,Sound, Mise-en-Scène.

In this essay I am gong to right about how the film Kick Ass has in relation with 7 key areas of representation: Gender, Age, Ethnicity, Sexuality, Social Class, Physical Ability/ Disability, Regional Identity.
It is directed by Mathew Vaughn and written by Jane Goldman. It was released in March 2010 staring Aaron Johnson, Chloe Grace Moretz, Christopher Mintz and Mark Strong. Kick Ass is one of the most successful British films to be released this year. It was based on a Marvel comic written by Stan Lee. Matthew Vaughan did have some problems with the script, because he wanted to have a girl as the main character but he wasn't allowed to do this as it would of been wrong from the comic.

Dave Lizewski is the superhero (Kick Ass) but before he decided to become his Kick Ass he was the typical geek who not many people like but lots of people liked bullying him. He would always fantasize about his dream girl Katie Deauxma even though he knew this was never going to happen. But after his accident of being Kick Ass for the first time there was a roomer about him being gay. Because he told the paramedics not to tell anybody about the Kick Ass suit. It was only then when his dream girl Katie Deauxnia started to notice him. The only reason why she was interested in him was because she likes the gay guys and of course Dave was not going to turn down his dream girl. And after they spent some time together they were becoming best of friends however this made it twice as hard for Dave to tell her that he is straight. Later in the film Dave tells her that he is Kick Ass, she then falls straight in love with him. So i think being a superhero is a big advantage in relationships.

Kick Ass is a teenage lad and as a teenage lad we all go through a stage of wanting to be a superhero but the difference is that he actually goes and does it. But of course he can't actually just become a superhero. But that doesn't stop him from buying his own super suit. On his first attempt of being a superhero he gets stabbed and hit by a car. After coming out of the hospital he had metal plates in him and nerve damage but little did he now that was the making of his super power. Dave mite not have a super power but it is the closest he is going to get to one in this work.

The ethnicity in Kick Ass is that Dave Lizewski is the geek but he is good however the black body guide is the seen as the cool one in the film but he is bad. So it is stereotypical when the black body guide is cool because he is big and has a bazooka and when Dave is a glasses wearing skinny, white boy that reads comics he is seen as the geek , stereotypically in the film. I think that Dave is a working class citizen in the film as he live in a terrace house which in America is a average working class house. I think that Kick Ass tries and makes him to be like Peter Parker in Spider Man. With him starting out to be a geek then winning the girl of his dreams and becomes cool by the end of the film. Dave’s Mother dies which is what happens in Spider Man with Peter Parkers uncle. They keep on saying the quote ‘ with great power comes great reasonability’ which is off Spider Man. This means That he has the power to change things and he has the reasonability for it because he has a super power. But in Kick Ass they say ‘no power comes no reasonability’. I think this means they have no power but they are still doing heroic thing. So I think that quote is trying to say is normal people can do heroic things without powers.
The physical ability of Kick Ass it a typical geek. For example when he is trying to jump across the buildings and he can’t. But when you see Hit Girl jumping across then it shows that she is more of a superhero than Kick Ass is. Also when Big Daddy is fighting them bad guys I the were house it shows the physical ability of him is much more than Kick Ass because he just gets beat up unlike Big Daddy.
The camera work in Kick Ass is very good because there is lots of close up of the heroes and when he is on the jet pack
Mathew Vaughn makes it feel like that you are there. The sound work is good when Hit Girl is killing all of Frank D'Amico men and there is quite cheerful music on. The mise en scene has got a good meaning to it in this film. I think that it tells us that anybody can be a hero if they want.

Spooks Representation of Ethnicity

In this clip Danny is represented as a very strong character which is unknow, because stereotypicly a black person wouldn't be seen in this way however i do think he plays it very well. He could be seen as wise, this is because the way he speaks down to the terroist and realised that he could have been in the same position that he is because he was born some place different. I think he says this because of his colour, that he was more likely to be in that position than the terroist. He is also seen as selfless. This is because  he gives his life to save his partner when she was already at gun point by the terroist. He is also seen as the hero because he stands up to the terroist even now he is tied down to the chair he says that 'if i wasn't tired in this chair, i would be standing in your face'.

some of the lighting was used very well because the terroistwere in the dark most of the time symbolising that they are the villians. They also have the windows in the back ground that looks like jail bars show that they are prisoners. There is alot of music tension in the clip showing that they mite be middle easten because of the Islame music in the back ground like they are just about to pray. There is also a Wale nosies in the back ground, i don't really now why they do this but i like to think that the noise goes with the oraying music in a way.

The reaction of when Danny get shot shows that he was a well loved guy. I can tell this by the reaction from all the people when he died. For example one of the guy's phone just slips from his hand showing that he is gob smaked. Which a ditffernet reaction to the women who cries strate the way.

I think that Danny wins in the end of this scene because he get's the terrorist to change his mind in the end even tho he dies.
